Customs formalities:
Belgique belongs to the European
Union applies all the formalities required by the EEC.
With regard to the fight against terrorism the
"24 hours advance vessel manifest rule" is applicable since December 2002
for all container shipments to the USA. As a result all exporters have to submit
a detailed cargo list to the US Customs Services 24 hours before loading of the
container. Previous shipping information such as the mention of "freight all
kinds", "consolidated cargo" or "general merchandise" on the B/L are no longer
accepted.
Since February 2nd the US Customs penalizes those
that do not conform to the rules (thru fines or refusal of the
cargo).
